Verklagsreglur opinberra aðila

Hafrannsóknastofnun hefur ásamt fjölda annara aðila sem koma að málum þegar hvali rekur á land, hvort sem er lifandi eða dauðir, komið sér upp sameiginlegum verklagsreglum um viðbrögð. Samkvæmt þeim sér Hafrannsóknastofnun um skráningu og skipulag aðgerða þegar dauðir hvalir finnast í fjöru en dýralæknar og Matvælastofnun-MAST hafa yfirumsjón með aðgerðum sé dýrið lifandi og virðist ekki komast að sjálfsdáðum á flot aftur. Procedures for responding

The Marine and Freshwater Research Institute, together with a number of other parties involved in the case of whale strandings, whether alive or dead, has established common procedures for responding to such event. According to them, the Marine and Freshwater Research Institute is responsible for registering and organizing actions when dead whales are found on the beach, while the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority-MAST oversee actions if the animal is alive and does not appear to be able to refloat on its own.
