MFRI is a core partner in InfiniFish – a Horizon Europe initiative supporting a research consortium aimed at developing practical technologies and guidance to minimize fisheries impact while keeping fleets efficient and resilient.

MFRI is collaborating with Naust Marine to use data from electronic winch systems to advance real-time decision-support capabilities to reduce fuel usage, seabed impact, and optimize catch composition.
The MFRI also leads work package 6 (WP6), which advances the definition of indicators that can be used to measure effectiveness of these technologies and scale their impacts to ecosystems and societies. Our indicator development draws on trials and data from partners across Europe:
• Decision support data analysis & data (InfiniLog, InfiniCatch Trawl, InfiniCatch NOR, InfiniCatch Jano) with AZTI, SINTEF Ocean, EV ILVO, Catchwise, Naust Marine, SILECMAR).
• Gear innovations (InfiniDoor, InfiniWing) with DTU, Marine Laboratory Denmark, WFPO, Cefas to reduce drag and seabed contact.
• Robotic fish handling & valorisation (InfiniSort, InfiniSile, InfiniFood, InfiniGrow) with SINTEF Ocean, Melbu, Çukurova University Türkiye, AZTI, HCMR to lower waste and add value.
Together, these collaborations feed MFRI led indicators that translate fishery technology performance into clear climate and ecosystem
benefits, supporting smarter decisions from vessel to policy.
