🏆 Melanie Stock wins Best Student Poster Award!

Melanie Stock, a PhD student in marine biology at the Marine and Freshwater Research Institute (MFRI), recently won the award for best student poster at the 26th Biennial Conference on the Biology of Marine Mammals, where prizes were awarded for the best student poster from each continent.

The conference took place in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on 19–23 October and is the world's largest conference on marine mammal biology, attended by around 1,500 scientists from more than 50 countries.

Melanie's PhD project focuses on the bycatch of marine mammals and seabirds in Icelandic fisheries. Understanding the extent of bycatch is essential for the conservation of these species and for sustainable fisheries.

Melanie is supervised by Guðjón Már Sigurðsson and Dunja Jusufovski at MFRI and Haseeb Randhawa at the University of Iceland.

MFRI warmly congratulates Melanie on this outstanding achievement!
