Correction to newly published minke whale advice

Minke whale Minke whale

Marine and Freshwater Research Institute (MRFI) has discovered an error in the catch advice for minke whale in 2026, which is hereby corrected. The correction states that MFRI and NAMMCO advise that catches in 2026 should be no more than 134 animals in the central Icelandic coastal management area. This replaces the advice of 168 animals.

The reason for this correction is that it was forgotten to reduce the calculated advice from the stock assessment model by 20% as a precaution, as stipulated in the IWC's advisory rules when new counts are not available (so called phase-out rule).

The corrected advice can be found here.
