Post-Doctoral Scientist position is available at the Marine and Freshwater Research Institute

A two year Post-Doctoral Scientist position is available at the Marine and Freshwater Research Institute of Iceland (MFRI), to work on the project “NatuRE based SOLutions for sustainable use of high north marine biodiVersity and ecosystems sErvices (RESOLVE)”, funded by Biodiversa+, the European Biodiversity Partnership. The project aims to develop a novel, comprehensive evaluation procedure addressing the implications of nature-based solutions, in particular area-based management measures (i.e. marine protected areas), for mitigation of biodiversity loss, human well-being and transformative change. The project has case study areas in Greenland, Norway and Iceland.

The work of the post-doctoral scientist will centre on assessing the mitigation potential of designated MPA networks for biodiversity loss due to anthropogenic activities, comparing patterns and climate-driven trends in fish and benthos biodiversity in and outside of MPAs. The post-doctoral scientist will evaluate taxonomical and functional indicators to identify biodiversity hotspots, evaluate how these will be affected under climate change scenarios, and assess their degree of exposure to anthropogenic drivers.
