An article covering research done on the genetics of the Atlantic salmon was recently published in the ICES Journal of Marine Science.

This morning Admiral Charles D. Michel of the U.S. Coast Guard honoured the captain and crew of MFRI research vessel Árni Friðriksson, the Isavia flight crew, and the Icelandic Coast Guard for their heroism in saving the lives of three U.S. citizens lost at see off Iceland this summer.

Norwegian Spring-Spawning Herring, Blue Whiting and Mackerel

Stig Falk Petersen, specialist at the Akva-niva Institue and Professor at the University of Tromsö, Norway, will give a lecture at MFRI on September 27. The lecture will be held in the 1st floor auditorium at Skúlagata 4, and will commence at 12:15 pm.

The world renowned marine biologist Ray Hilborn is UNU-FTP guest lecturer this year.

UNU-FTP is partnering in an EU Horizon 2020 project, FarFish, relating to improving the sustainability of EU fishing outside European waters.

Dr. Steven Campana, Professor at the Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Iceland, will give a lecture at MFRI on April 6. The lecture will be held in the 1st floor auditorium at Skúlagata 4, and will commence at 12:30 pm.

Today the nineteenth cohort of fellows of the United Nations University Fisheries Training Programme graduated in a ceremony held at the Marine and Freshwater Research Institute of Iceland.

UNU-FTP guest lecturer this year is Dr. Barry Costa-Pierce, who is currently the Chair of the Department of Marine Sciences at the University of New England.

MFRI and Vör Marine Research have signed a collaboration agreement. The two institutes will work jointly on marine research in the Breiðafjörður area
