MFRI has decided to revise its capelin advice from 24 February for the current fishing year.

The revision entails that MFRI considers it save to retract its advice regarding area based TAC.This is based on substantial coverage by fishing vessels of the area north of Iceland with special emphasis on the area off Húnaflói, along with surveying by r/v Bjarni Sæmundsson and f/v Venus off the north of Vestfirðir in 27 February to 2 March.

These observations indicate that the capelin that were measured off Húnaflói during 12-21 February are now migrating around Vestfirðir towards the south. It is assumed that it will spawn west but not north of Iceland which was the premise for advising a part of the TAC be fished north of Iceland.

The TAC, however, is unchanged from former advice or 459 800 tonnes.
